HERNDON, Va. - A worker at Dulles International Airport went home from her evening shift five months ago and has not been heard from since.
Norma Alicia Avillan is considered a "missing person" by the Herndon (Virginia) Police Department. Her family fears some harm has come to the petite 51-year-old woman.
A security camera captured her departure from Dulles around 11:30 p.m. on one of the busiest travel days of the year - the Sunday following Thanksgiving. Police and her family believe she went home to her apartment in the Berkdale complex in Herndon. Then she vanished.
Avillan's car was in the parking lot of the apartment building. Her furnishings and belongings, except her purse and wallet, were in the locked apartment. But Norma Avillan was gone. Police say there was no obvious evidence of a crime.
The woman's brother, Juan Avillan, has driven to Northern Virginia from Massachusetts five times in the past five months, passing out fliers and asking if anyone in the apartment complex heard or saw anything unusual in late November or early December. Nothing has come from his efforts.
"My family, we are not rich," said Juan Avillan. "But we're willing to give $1,000 reward to anybody who gives information about her whereabouts."
Police in Herndon say a caller can remain anonymous. The phone number for the police department is 703-435-6887.
