WASHINGTON - It was the first day back on the job for a D.C. firefighter severely burned fighting a house fire back in April. And he spent part of his time helping save a life, a construction worker trapped in a trench.
Chuck Ryan had spent seven months at first the burn unit, then rehabilitation. He had second and third-degree burns over nearly half his body.
He had been injured along with four other firefighters in a blaze set by an arsonist at a house on 48th Place in Northeast D.C. on April 8.
Ryan says he just focused on getting back to work and saving a life is all just part of the job.
A man pleaded guilty last week to setting the fire on 48th Place, as well as other fires in the Washington area.
