A local McDonald's erupted into chaos on Monday. One moment, people were waiting in line to order food and then gunfire rang out. The crowd ran away in horror.

D.C. Police are releasing surveillance video to try and catch the suspect.

This all happened at the McDonald's on Good Hope Road in Southeast Washington. The video gives an inside look into a crime in progress.

It's also an opportunity to get a good look at the suspect. It's not a robbery, it's an impatient customer who gets enraged and another customer pays the price. Keep in mind this happened at 10 in the morning.

In the video, you can watch as this line at the Mickey D's quickly turns chaotic. One customer seen in a black hat seems to get impatient and has an argument with a customer in the white hat.

Another angle shows a scuffle on the floor in a hallway and the suspect pulls out a gun. Eventually, police say, the suspect shoots.

The restaurant was crowded.

"The motive as far as we can tell from looking at the tape, simply frustration, a verbal argument that escalated to physical fight until he pulled out a weapon," said Lt. Andre Wright of D.C. Police.

It happened Monday. At one point, customers are seen fleeing from the fast food chain.

The cameras also captured the image of the suspect, and now police need to identify him. Although he hasn't been seen since, detectives are sure he hasn't gone far.

"We believe he lives within walking distance of the restaurant. We know he frequents the restaurant at least twice a day on a daily basis. The residents of the community are familiar with him," said Wright.

The suspect fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. He is described as a black male, approximately 5'5" in height, 180 pounds, with a dark complexion and short haircut. He was wearing a black hooded fleece jacket with a white shirt underneath and blue jeans. He is considered armed and dangerous.

It was all caught on camera from the line, to the fight to the time police arrive. A fast food run turns into a run for your life moment.

Detectives say keep this in mind.

"There are eyes that are always watching and patience is a virtue," said Wright.
