A normally quiet evening at Pierce Park quickly turns into chaos. A fight breaks out between 2 groups of men as Nancy Netherland was walking her dog.
"I was kind of thinking maybe it's not as safe here as I thought it was." Nancy says.
Nancy says she immediately called 9-1-1. The fight had moved from the park to the median up the street near her home. One of the men in the fight had been stabbed.
"There was a guy in the street over there, there was somebody else up against the fence, the knife was down inside."
The bloody knife was right beside her plants.
"There were a couple of guys arguing up the street, they were threatening each other, definitely very intense. One guy threatening the other with a bike lock." says ANC commissioner Mindy Moretti.
Mindy says in recent weeks they have noticed groups of men, not from the area, causing trouble.
In fact, two weeks ago about two blocks away from the park there was another fight with another group of men.
"There have been guys hanging out, drinking, smoking pot, talking tough to one another and there are little children in the park there. So it's a concern."
The neighbors say they reported the incidents to the police. They say patrols have increased in the area and that's why they had a fast response today.
"These past few incidents have been isolated so people shouldn't feel unsafe coming to the park."
