Two months ago, Cameron Taihi Williams was one of the passengers riding Metro car 1079 on the Red Line when it violently crashed into another train.

Williams one of nine people killed in that accident. It was the worst crash in Metro's 33-year history.

On Tuesday, Williams' family filed a $25-million suit claiming Metro was negligent and didn't take reasonable precautions to prevent the accident.

"We now needed to get it filed because the judge has scheduled a conference to determine how the cases are handled. Now there are nine cases filed because of this tragedy," says Jack Olender, the attorney representing the Williams family.

Metro is not the only target of the suit. Alstom Signaling Company in New York was also named. Olender says they are responsible for the circuit that did not stop or slow the train before the crash.

"That's one of the major causes of the breaks not working. It wasn't signaled that the train was right in front of them," Olender says, adding that this is only the beginning.

Once the NTSB investigation is done, there could be other companies added to the lawsuit.

"We wanted to be a part of the input on what the scheduling will be and how the discovery should be done, because there are have to be a lot of depositions taken-- people examined by the lawyers under oath," said Olender.

It could be months or even a year before this lawsuit is settled in or out of court.

The union president Jackie Jeter was not available for comment on this lawsuit. Metro says they can't comment on pending litigation.
