Sexual Assault in Rock Creek Park

U.S. Park Police are investigating a sexual assault along a popular path in Rock Creek Park.

It happened Wednesday morning at 7 am off of Military Road along Beach Drive between Bingham Drive and Joyce Road. Police say the attacker grabbed a female jogger and assaulted her in a wooded area near the Milkhouse Ford crossing.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, in his 30's, 5'7 to 5'10 with a stocky build. He was unshaven and wore a white cotton t-shirt and jeans and had a strong smell of alcohol on his breath.

Police say the description is actually very strong when it is combined with the exact time and location of the attack. Investigators believe another jogger or someone walking along the path may have seen a man fitting that description get into a car, catching a bus or entering a nearby home shortly after the assault.

Police are working on a composite sketch which may be released to the media in the coming days.
