WASHINGTON, D.C. - The grieving father and sister of Erica Peters, who was brutally murdered inside her Northeast Washington apartment on March 21 of this year, are suing the District.

They are raising very serious questions about how long it took for D.C. police officers to get inside the apartment after they first arrived.

Court documents show Peters was stabbed more than 20 times. Her sons, 10-year-old Dakota and 11-year-old Eric, were also killed in a similar manner.

Peters' live-in boyfriend, Joseph Mays, is facing murder charges, but the family is also looking for a different kind of justice. They believe the 911 dispatcher who took a call from inside the apartment that Saturday afternoon may have told a police officer on the scene that the screams on the call could have been child's play.

The family also believes it took officers anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half before police forced their way inside after no one answered the door.

Peters' father is speaking out.

"I have moments everyday where I am just wondering why, how, you know," Bobby Harper told FOX 5.

The lawsuit has not been filed, but the family lawyer said they are close. City officials said they can not respond until that lawsuit is filed and reviewed.
