CENTREVILLE, Va. - Earlier this year, a 24-year-old man noticed his old youth baseball coach at a 7-Eleven in the Fort Hunt area of Fairfax County. The coach was accompanied by a teenage boy. That sight disturbed the 24-year-old man, who called the police to report that his coach had molested him repeatedly 12 years ago.
The Child Investigations Unit of the Fairfax County Police Department opened a case. Detectives called in the FBI for help.
On Friday, they arrested 37-year-old John E. Hamilton of Gabrielle Way in Centreville. He is charged with sexual battery and "taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in custodial or supervisory relationship."
Investigators believe the improper sexual contact with the then-minor took place at Hamilton's then-residence in the Belle View part of Fairfax County. On one occasion, according to police, the molestation took place in the parking lot of Carl Sandburg Middle School.
A neighbor of Hamilton's told FOX 5 he held a lot of parties at his Centreville town house.
"He had a lot of guys, here," observed Debbie Hancq, "Young guys. And he [said], 'Well, they need a place to stay.'"
During the investigation, police learned a 16-year-old foreign exchange student was living with Hamilton. That teen has been removed from the residence by state authorities.
Hamilton is currently being held without bond at the Fairfax Co. Adult Detention Center. He will have a further hearing before a judge on July 24.
