WASHINGTON - Grounds already water-logged from winter snow storms, got even soggier overnight, and took down trees all around the District.

At the corner of Cleveland Avenue and Cathedral in Northwest, a huge tree fell, snapping power lines and sending a light pole crashing onto a car. There was a similar scene at Varnum and Argle in Northwest. Pepco, Dominion Power and B-G-and-E reported hundreds of outages.

A flood watch is in effect through Sunday evening, meaning expect flooding of small creeks and streams. But the waters are running high along the Potomac River. Access to the boardwalk has been cut off on the Georgetown waterfront.
