A Bethesda man who was a decorated fighter pilot was laid to rest in Arlington Cemetery with full military honors. But he's being remembered for what he did off the battlefield. He drew back the curtain on the human toll war takes on its warriors.
Quentin Aanenson put together his own documentary "A Fighter Pilot's Story" at his children's urging after he retired.
That work caught the eye of documentary filmmaker Ken Burns...who included Aanenson in his documentary called 'The War". Millions have now seen the work and have a better understanding of what the veterans went through.
Aanenson once called the World War Two vets an endangered species. They are dying by the thousands now each month. He died just three days after Christmas...but his work lives on.
