LA PLATA, Md. - Four Charles County public high schools made the annual “ America’s Top High Schools ” list ranked by Newsweek magazine.
The ranking system, based on the Washington Post’s Challenge Index, ranks the ratio of AP tests taken to the number of graduating seniors.
Schools ranking in the top 6 percent of the list achieve a ratio of at least 1.0
Out of the nation’s 1,622 high schools on the list, La Plata , Maurice J. McDonough , North Point and Westlake high schools ranked.
La Plata’s ranking was 487, McDonough was 961, North Point was 1,043 and Westlake was 1,443.
Out of Maryland’s 185 public high schools, 53 percent made the list.
