Pregnant Shark Bitten, Babies Swim Out

Visitors at an aquarium in New Zealand witnessed an unusual sight when a pregnant shark was bitten in the belly by another shark, releasing four babies into the tank.

The Daily Mail reports that visitors at Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World in Auckland told staff they saw something float out of the shark after it was injured.

"[The bite] was on the side and very deep, it was like an impromptu C-section and the sharks actually got born out of the side," said one witness to the spectacle.

Staff quickly removed the babies from the water so that they wouldn't get hurt by the other sea animals in the tank. They also found four more babies in the mother's womb.

All eight baby sharks are doing fine. The mother shark received stitches and is being observed closely.

Last month a 20-foot shark nearly bit a 10-foot Great White shark in half near Queensland, Australia.
