(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Police have arrested Jason Rodriguez who is considered the suspect in a shooting at a downtown Orlando office building on Friday. Police said at least one person died and five people were injured.
Police said Rodriguez, 40, surrendered three hours after the shooting after police saw him through the window of his mother's home and asked him to come outside.
The Associated Press reports that when a reporter asked Rodriguez why he did it, he said, "Because they left me to rot."
Rodriguez allegedly opened fire at Reynolds, Smith & Hill, a transportation consulting firm, located at the building at 1000 Legions Place in Orlando.
Sgt. Barbara Jones said Rodriguez was a former employee in the building at 1000 Legions Place. The motive for the shooting is unknown.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Rodriguez performed architectural work at RS&H. He had been laid off recently, according to Renato Gonzalez, a manager at the firm.
"I know that we was not very happy with the layoff," Gonzalez told the Sentinel. He said that Rodriguez made disgruntled comments when he left the firm, but nothing indicated he would carry out a violent act. "He took a little worse than most people."
The Sentinel adds that Rodriguez filed for bankruptcy in September. Records show he was divorced in October 2006 and has an 8-year-old son and a daughter in Puerto Rico. The Sentinel reports he does not have a previous criminal record.
