In January, singer/songwriter Jonathan Mann challenged himself to write a song and upload a video for it every single day. For his 109th song, Mann got lyrical assistance from former Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Yoo: "Torture Memos: Waterboarding" sets the content of a recently released CIA memo on waterboarding detainees to music.
Over acoustic guitar and a drum machine, Mann sings lyrics taken directly from the memo. "The detainee is lying on a gurney that's inclined at an angle -- 10 to 15 degrees," goes the first verse. "A cloth is placed over the detainee's face. Cold water is poured on the cloth."
"Torture Memos: Waterboarding" isn't Mann's only song-a-day composition inspired by current events. Amid whimsical kids' songs and a requested theme song for a blog, Mann took the side of economist Paul Krugman in his criticism of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner with the song "Hey Paul Krugman."
