WASHINGTON - There has not been a new liquor license issued to a bar or restaurant in the heart of Georgetown in more than 20 years.
A moratorium was established to try to keep a lid on late night noise and disorderly conduct. But there is a new move to keep that moratorium in place with a few revisions.
Currently, the Georgetown Moratorium Zone extends approximately 1,800 hundred feet in all directions from the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue, NW, and N Street, NW.
Some advisory neighborhood commissioners want to make sure there is no significant quality of life change for residents when the liquor license moratorium expires July 14.
The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board heard testimony Wednesday on a proposal to continue the moratorium, but to also allow seven new liquor licenses for business establishments.
There has been no word when a ruling from the ABC board will take place.
