D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says the fire took about 15 to 20 minutes put out Saturday. Three people were home at the time of the fire but able to safely evacuate. The home was at 1923 Kearney St. NE. One 27-year-old occupant was transported to a hospital for smoke inhalation but expected to be released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but was possibly electrical in nature. One firefighter was being treated for burned ears and another for a burned forearm. They were expected to be treated and released.
