    WASHINGTON - Eight years ago today, a teacher and student from Backus Middle School in northeast were killed in the 9/11 attacks.

    They were on American Airlines flight 77, on their way to California for A National Geographic Society Ecology Conference when their flight was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon.
