D.C. Mayor, Adrian Fenty has a controversial plan to help fix the city's budget. He wants to let convicts in the D.C. jail out on early release. Right now the District is facing an 800-million dollar budget shortfall and city leaders think the idea could save them millions.
The Mayor is calling the program "Good Time." Inmates can also earn days off their sentences by doing jobs in lock-up or getting their G.E.D.'s.
