ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A new report from Allstate Insurance Co. says Alexandria tops the list of cities where driver safety has improved the most in recent years.
According to the report released Wednesday, the average Alexandria driver goes more than seven years before having an auto collision. That's an increase of nearly two years since 2005.
Alexandria is followed by Lexington, Ky., and Arlington, Texas, on the most-improved list. Four other Virginia cities also made the top ten -- Hampton, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Richmond.
The honors for safest driving city, though, went to Sioux Falls, S.D., for the fourth consecutive year. Drivers there go about 13.5 years between collisions.
Allstate offered free gasoline Wednesday morning to Alexandria drivers to celebrate the improvement.
