WASHINGTON - The death toll from ethnic fighting in the Former Soviet Republic of Kyrgyzstan is now up to more than 200. Almost 2,000 people have been injured in what is called ethnic cleansing.
A humanitarian crisis is brewing as more than 100,000 refugees fled across the border into neighboring Uzbekistan. On June 15th the United Nations called for an air corridor to bring in aid. Kyrgyzstan is home to a vital American military base supplying troops in the war in Afghanistan.
Col. Gary Montgomery, U.S Marine Corps Reserve and Research Fellow at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies joined FOX 5 to discuss how the looming humanitarian crisis in Kyrgyzstan impacts the United States.
