WASHINGTON - After a long brutal winter it is natural to want to dive into summer with a lot of enthusiasm. However for health reasons it is best the body gradually embrace the season. Dr. Matthew Leonard, an emergency department physician with Suburban Hospital, gave FOX 5 viewers advice on enjoying the season safely.
In order to beat the heat Dr. Leonard advises hydrating often, and easing off alcohol & heavy meals. Another sure way to stay cool is to wear light, loose clothing and sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
The ideal summer body has people kicking it into high gear. However, in this high heat it is important that you do not over exercise. Dr. Leonard shared symptoms to watch out for in the summer heat: dizziness, chest pain, shortness of breath, change in mental status and any elevation in body temperature.
