WASHINGTON - June 18th is Sickle Cell Awareness Day. Sickle cell disease affects people all over the world it has now also been 100 years since sickle cell disease was recognized by the medical community.
Sickle cell disease affects red blood cells, causing those cells to change their shape, the cells have a hard time carrying oxygen to different parts of the body this causes damage to the organs and pain. Children’s National Medical Center held a special ceremony marking sickle cell awareness day on June 18th.
FOX 5 reporter, Guvrir Dhindsa profiled two remarkable youth that have been living with sickle cell disease all or most of their lives.
