WASHINGTON - When most people think about adopting a pet from a shelter, they usually look for a young one. However, the seniors need a loving home as well!

Jim Monsma from the Washington Animal Rescue League shares the benefits of adopting an older animal.

Benefits of adopting an older pet:

  • Generally house-trained already
  • Don’t have a puppy’s incessant need to chew up everything
  • Adoption fees are often waived
  • Much less demanding of your time
  • Their personality is fully formed - what you see is what you get!
  • They can still learn and bond with new people!
