WASHINGTON - You know times are tough when thousand of people line up for hours just to get some help with their bills. People from all over D.C. showed up Friday morning, hoping to get assistance with their electric, phone, gas, and water bills.
Thousand of people lined up around the D.C. Convention Center early Friday morning. Some waited in that line for hours to ask for assistance paying their bills. The joint utility discount day was put together by the D.C. Department of Environment.
For those who qualify, help is being offered by the utility companies as well as money from the Federal Government.
Many of those standing in line told FOX 5 that they have fallen on hard times. Many of them are unemployed and unable to pay their bills.
Most of those who met with representatives will be notified in the future what type of assistance will be offered.
If you live in the District and you need help with your utility bills you can go to this website for more information.
