American Idol runner-up David Archuleta's father has been arrested in Utah on charges of solicitation of prostitution.
The story was first reported by FOX 13 News, KSTU-TV in Salt Lake City. Police say Jeffrey Archuleta was caught inside a massage parlor during a raid on January 14. Investigators claim that's when Midvale, Utah police raided a Reiki massage parlor located on South State Street.
"His intent going into the message parlor was to receive sexual gratification, so we cited him for solicitation of prostitution," said Sgt. John Salazar of the Midvale Police Department.
The raid was conducted on the basis that they did not have a business license, but once inside police discovered that prostitution was taking place. According to court documents, there was one client inside receiving services during the raid: 47-year-old Jeffrey Archuleta.
"Inside they found a female masseuse and male client," explained Salazar. "At that point in time, an interview ensued and the male client admitted to receiving sexual gratification from the female masseuse."
The American Idol Season Seven finalist's father was charged with a Class B Misdemeanor, soliciting prostitution. He was fined $528, police say. KSTU-TV reports Archuleta waived his right to counsel and entered a six-month plea in abeyance.
According to KSTU-TV's website , Jeffrey Archuleta's attorney said he never had sex or sexual contact with his masseuse. He also told the station it was the first time his client had ever been to that establishment, and claimed Archuleta was there for a back problem. His attorney claimed the elder Archuleta was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
