Sherri Ly has been a general assignment reporter for WTTG-TV since 2002. During her time at FOX 5, she has covered some of the biggest trials in our area, including convicted sniper Lee Boyd Malvo, the Montgomery County trial of his accomplice John Muhammad and the terrorism trial for Zacarias Moussaoui. Sherri has also reported extensively on the growth of gangs, including several investigative stories on the issue. What she finds most interesting about reporting is being able to witness the most important news events of our time firsthand. Sherri's awards include Regional Emmys-three nominations, winning two for Spot News and Investigative Report: Series. She has also won for Documentary In-Depth Report from the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association.

Prior to WTTG-TV, Sherri worked for KNTV in San Francisco, covering stories of national interest including the 2002 Sequoia National Forest Fire. Also in California, she was a reporter and weekend evening anchor at the Orange County News Channel in the Los Angeles area. Her first reporting job came at WCTI in New Bern, NC working in the Carteret County Bureau. Months after starting, she was on the beach in 125 mile per hour winds covering her first major news story, when Hurricanes Bertha and Fran hit. She began her career in Miami as an associate producer and writer at WSVN and WTVJ.

Sherri grew up in Florida but lived briefly in the DC area when her father was in the military, spending a year at Lake Braddock High School. She graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelors of Science in Broadcasting and Political Science and a minor in Psychology. At Miami, Sherri started out as an aspiring sports journalist, writing sports for the Miami Hurricane and interning in sports at a Miami television station. Eventually the opportunity to work in news won her over.

An avid sports fan and athlete, Sherri was a varsity basketball player. She's also part of the FOX 5 softball team, loves to snow ski and enjoys running near her home along the C & O Canal. She has run two marathons, the 2000 Chicago Marathon and the 2003 Marine Corp Marathon. Graduating from the University of Miami, she is a die hard Hurricanes fan even though she is outnumbered in Washington by their rivals from Virginia Tech.

In her spare time, Sherri can be found working in the community. She often participates in events with various Asian American organizations, a tribute to her Vietnamese heritage. She has served on the board of the Asian American Journalist Association's Washington, D.C. Chapter. Sherri is also a Delta Gamma and remains active in the sorority's DC alumnae chapter.

Outside of work and her other activities, Sherri enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and children.
